I started cycling when I was 17 and bought my first road bike with money I won for winning an essay contest held by Harvard University. The money was supposed to be used for tuition, but I felt I needed the bike more. In 1997 I heard about the Spinning® Program and I decided to get certified and join the now 230,000 certified Spinning® instructors in the world. I was already a group fitness instructor and personal trainer, so I thought Spinning® would be a great way to introduce cycling to my students/clients.
My dreams of being a Master Instructor (MI) began in 2006 when I made it to my first international Spinning® Conference. I was so inspired and motivated at the conference, that I set a goal to become a Spinning® Master Instructor. After numerous courses & certifications, years of experience and a competitive selection process I became a MI in 2011 and was chosen to join an elite group of 140 Master Instructors in the world.
In my decades of leading Spinning® classes I discovered that being on the bike is more than how many calories you burn, or how many watts you generate. The class is about a feeling, a connection, an ability to tap into energy and shift thought. It is seeing a student have this same ah-ha moment that drives my love of teaching and it inspired the goal of opening Pedal Works Café & Studios. I want everyone to experience what the original Spinning® Program is and gain a deeper understanding of cycling and the power that lies within. That long flat road, complimented by beautiful music and good coaching... there's nothing like it!
