Our founder, Martha Williams is one of three Spinning® Master Instructors in Canada and one of 140 in the world. She designs a safe and effective Spinning® program that is only found at Pedal Works Café & Studios. All cycling enthusiasts will benefit from a well balanced zone based training program. No matter your fitness level you can participate and enjoy a ride or a Studio II class!
With over 30 years of experience in the fitness industry, her unique qualifications and area of expertise offer customers the highest standard in the industry.
Every instructor and staff member at Pedal Works Café & Studios will uphold the same high ethical values regarding service and safety. Only instructors that have completed the Spinning® Instructor Certification will lead our classes.
Martha started cycling when she was 17 and bought her first road bike with money won for winning an essay contest held by Harvard University. The money was awarded to put towards tuition, but Martha felt she needed the bike more. In 1997 Martha learned about the Spinning® Program and decided to get certified and join the now 230,000 certified Spinning® instructors in the world. Martha was already a group fitness instructor and personal trainer, so she thought Spinning® would be a great way to introduce cycling to her students/clients.
Martha's dreams of being a Master Instructor (MI) began in 2006 when she attended her first international Spinning® Conference. Martha was so inspired and motivated at the conference, that she set a goal to become a Spinning® Master Instructor. After numerous courses & certifications, years of experience and a competitive selection process Martha became a Master Instructor. In 2011 and she was chosen to join an elite group of 140 Master Instructors in the world, becoming one of three in Canada.
In her decades of leading Spinning® classes she discovered that being on the bike is more than how many calories you burn, or how many watts you generate. The class is about a feeling, a connection, an ability to tap into energy and shift thought. It is seeing students have this ah-ha moment that drives her love of teaching and was the inspiration behind opening Pedal Works Café & Studios. Martha wants everyone to experience the original Spinning® Program and gain mental, physical and an emotional connection to cycling. Imagining being on that long flat road, complimented by beautiful music and good coaching... there's nothing like it!

My experience at Pedal Works has been incredible. I started cycling on gravel at the beginning of the pandemic and I loved it immediately. But during the winters I would just sit and wait for the snow to melt so I could bike again. Spin classes downtown didn’t appeal to me but a friend and fellow cyclist told me about Martha’s studio - she said it was supportive and warm with really good vibes. I decided to try it out and I’m completely hooked on the place! I’ve joined other classes and spaces before and I’ve never felt like a belonging member, I’m used to feeling like a guest and an outsider of sorts. Pedal Works is the first place where I actually feel like a member when I walk in. I feel so welcome and comfortable in the space. On top of that, the classes are great and the memberships are actually affordable! I’ve been recommending it to everyone I know. Oh - and the coffee is delicious! I have so much gratitude to Martha for opening this space and making it such a beautiful and welcoming place to spend my precious down time.
“I took spin classes with Martha several years ago. It was a unique and exhilarating experience and so much more than a great cardio workout. The environment, including dimly lit space, inspiring background music and Martha’s words of encouragement transport the rider and simulate a perfect and challenging outdoor ride. I was thrilled to hear that Martha opened her very own spin studio, Pedal Works Café & Studio in Kingston. The space is gorgeous! In addition to Spin, Yoga and Restorative classes you can meet friends for coffee in the café and check out the art studio. It’s truly a one stop shop! I’ve taken several classes in the new space and continue to be blown away! Martha’s approach to spinning is truly special. Her passion, wealth of knowledge and coaching style ensures safety and effectiveness in the classes.”
